“Apalachicola, F-L-A”

Apalachicola, Florida November 15 – November 23, 2020

Our last stop before the winter in Panama City Beach was Apalachicola. We stayed in Apalach several times and once at the resort in EastPoint. The park is OK but it is convenient to St. George Island and Apalachicola. We took the bikes to the island several times and biked. We also spent a great afternoon at Paddy’s an outdoor bar on the bayside of the island.

Of course, we wandered around Apalach. Most of the stores were open, but we visited very few. The city had a mask ordinance, and everyone seemed to comply. The city was not crowded. We have not eaten in any restaurants indoors since February of 2020, but we did buy oysters at a local fish market and cooked oysters a couple of times. We also replenished our “Sopchoppy Sauce,” a great local sauce (we have not seen it sold anywhere else or online) which is a cross between ketchup and cocktail sauce.

Now on to Panama City Beach

“Apalachicola, F-L-A” by Bing Crosby

This song is one of my favorites because my dad used to sing this song every time we drove to Florida from Alabama (even when we were not going to Apalachicola!)
