“Life is a Highway”

Yesterday was our nomadiversary. That means that one year ago yesterday, Steve and I started our travel odyssey to see the country. We have traveled about 3,530 miles and visited 23 different cities (not including Panama City, and Auburn twice), 7 states and 33 breweries.

I will not say that we enjoyed every minute, because life is life and therefore we have everyday trials and tribulations — like the flat tire in Lexington, or the two attempted break ins on the truck, or the wrong turns, or doing laundry (Ugh!- which Steve does). With a few minor exceptions, the past year was awesome. Our plan for the next year is to complete the great lakes tour, head back to Florida for the winter and then travel west in the spring. Next year at this time we should be somewhere in Colorado.

I wanted to share a few highlights of the last year.

We loved the water falls in North Carolina.

Little Falls

We were pleasantly surprised by the Marked Tree Winery near Flat Rock North Carolina!

We found the Moses Cone Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked there most days during our stay in Boone, North Carolina.

How could you not have a good time bourbon tasting? It was awesome.

My first visit to a horserace was very memorable.

Keeneland

Springfield Illinois more fun than we thought it would be. While we did not like the horseshoe (the famous dish in Springfield that is made with meat, french fries, and cheese sauce) we loved everything Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln Museum

We also found the best brewery (at least the one that I liked the atmosphere and the beer) at Slauterhouse Brewing.

Chicago is just a little to big for me, but I like some things that the big city offers – like the art museum and the Van Gogh art.

We have biked many miles on many different trails. And – no – I have not had any more bike accidents and I am over AIF (accident induced fear).

We are currently in Door County and I absolutely love the small towns, the adorable shops, the local restaurants, the state parks, the biking, the farmers markets, the weather, and the breweries, and just the overall vibe. Ok – so I love everything about Door County!

We also enjoyed seeing friends and family. These are just a few of the highlights that reflect our trip for the last year. We have dreamed about traveling and seeing the country and now we are making memories.
