Franconia, New Hampshire August 30 – September 7, 2022
After two months in Bar Harbor, Steve and I were happy to get back on the road. Our first stop was Franconia, New Hampshire. This is the site of our first ever camping experience almost 30 years ago. Needless to say, camping this time was much improved.
We took a wonderful drive on the Kancamagus Highway and took in the sights. We stopped at most of the “scenic views”. Most of the views were pretty good. I thought Sabbaday Falls was the highlight, but I also liked the Lower Falls.
We went to the top of Mount Washington which is part of the White Mountains – a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire. Mount Washington is the highest point in the White Mountains. The day we went, the weather was beautiful. It was sunny and warm at 47 degrees. I thought it was freezing! We were told that visibility was 130 miles. I am not sure how true that was, but the views were amazing!
We stopped in at Mount Washington Hotel Inn. – OK you guessed it – The Inn has a great view of Mount Washington!
New Hampshire was beautiful and I took lots of photos while we were driving.
One of the places we loved in the area was Franconia Notch State Park. We rode the bike trail that was approximately nine miles long. It was a great way to see the park. We also hiked to the Flume Gorge. The Flume Gorge is a natural gorge extending 800 feet with granite walls that are about 70 feet high. It was pretty neat.
Here are some pictures of the bike trail.
We stayed near Littleton, New Hampshire and I really liked this town. The farmers market was cool, the downtown was cool, Schilling Beer Co. was cool and the Littleton Freehouse Taproom and Eatery was very cool. So – overall Littleton was super cool!
Our next stop is Quechee!
