Another year on the road and we are still having a great time. June 30, 2022 marked the end of our second year. We traveled 8,152 miles, 20 states, 43 cities, 38 Breweries, 25 wineries, 11 bike trails, 5 Battlefields/Forts, and 7 presidential museums. Whew! Here are a few of the highlights.
Steve and I both loved Grand Marias, Minnesota. This is a scenic town with lots of outdoor activities located right on Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. We thought the town and all of the surrounding scenery was fabulous and we would definitely visit again.
The Upper Peninsula (the UP) of Michigan was great. We did not spend enough time here, but we still loved it. Maybe – next time. My favorite was Pictured Rocks and of course trying a Pasty.
We spent a month in the Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan. The Peninsula is located just above Traverse City and is bordered by Lake Superior and Traverse Bay. We stayed in Suttons Bay, one of the many quaint towns on the peninsula. The area is known for its wineries and it has over 30 on the peninsula, and No – we did not go to all of them – only about 12 or so (we were here for a month – so 12 is not so bad (we did revisit a few).
Over the winter we spent five weeks in Okeechobee at a resort rv park. We had a great time between playing pickle ball, sitting at the pool, and hanging out with friends. While not an exotic location, it was one of our favorites.
On this trip, we visited lots of historical sites, including forts, battlefields, civil rights museums, historic homes, and presidential museums. A definite highlight was the rangers and tour guides we met along the way. Most of them were outstanding One of our favorites places was Gettysburg. We also loved Thomas Jefferson’s home and FDR’s home and museum.
Besides the great sights, we found time to bike. We rode some great trails this year. Our favorites were the trail in Duluth (we saw bears on this trail), Leelanau trail in Michigan, and the Creeper Trail in Virginia.
My favorite day of the whole year was the trip into New York where I was able to see Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh and also Wicked on Broadway.
This was a fabulous year. This blog does not come close to covering the highlights like Steve’s reunion in Baltimore, Boston, Charlottesville, Portland, Booth Bay Harbor, the Florida/Georgia game, Suwanee Music Festival, all of the friends we met and of course spending time with family.
Last year I predicted we would be in Colorado on our second anniversary, but we had a change in plans so we could go to Steve’s reunion. Next year, we are absolutely going to be in Colorado near Boulder.
