Delafield, Wisconsin (near Milwaukee) May 24 – June 7, 2021
After our whirlwind trip through the south, we finally made it to Wisconsin. Long time friends of Steve’s parents invited us to stay in their cottage for a couple of weeks. So, we parked the camper out front and moved into the cottage. The friends live on a point on Nagawicka lake. We spent most of the two weeks relaxing at the cottage, sitting by the lake, watching sunsets, touring the lake on a pontoon boat, and meeting family and friends.
We traveled into Milwaukee several times. On one occasion, we walked through a historic neighborhood called the Third Ward, visited the market and had drink at the Wicked Hop. We also stopped at MKE brewery on the Milwaukee River.
On another day, we went to a Milwaukee Brewers game at Family Field. Unfortunately, the Brewers lost, but it was very exciting. I was expecting boring, but both teams hit a bunch of home runs and our section was very popular for foul balls. The sausage race in the sixth inning was fun. The hot dog won by a mile.
Milwaukee is home to the Harley Davison Museum – or as I like to call it – the mother ship. The museum is really geared (like the word?) toward people who are really knowledgeable about motorcycles and how they work. We toured a whole room on the evolution of the engine. Most of the technical exhibits were way over my head, but the motorcycles were cool looking.
Since we are not from Wisconsin we were unaware of the “Friday Fish Fry”. Lots and Lots of restaurants have this famed Friday dinner. We went to Booz Hags in Nashota, Wisconsin and enjoyed fried cod and accoutrements. The restaurant was recommended by our hosts and was absolutely delicious.
Because we were in Delafield over Memorial Day, our hosts invited us to the family cookout. We had a great time. Our hosts have several children who live in the area, so we went to one house for brunch, two different houses for cocktails and one for an afternoon by the pool. We dined several times with our hosts and Steve cooked for them twice. We really enjoyed our two weeks in Delafield and were treated like family during our stay.
“Pontoon State of Mind” by Wyatt Edmondson. Steve and I saw this artist at the 30A Singer Songwriter festival several years ago and really liked his music. The song describes out time on Nagawicka like perfectly.
Oh! – We also celebrated Ziva’s 9th birthday while at the cottage. She enjoyed her new cat nip toys.
Wonderfully written Monica,!!!
So happy to hear you enjoyed your visit on Nagawicka.
Our door is always open to you, don’t wait too long we aren’t getting any younger!
Much love Jill and Bill
