“Road Trippin”

Franklin, North Carolina July 1 – August 9, 2020

We visited and traveled through several cities near Franklin. One of the first places we went was Highlands. Friends of ours want to buy property and build a house here, so we heard a lot about the town. Highlands was quaint and had some nice shops. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, we entered very few shops. We did find a nice grocery store/market where we purchased food for a picnic. We only traveled to Highlands from Franklin and the road is a typical mountain road. I liked the town OK.

We also traveled to Bryson City which is close to white water rafting and the home of the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad. We walked the city and went to a couple of breweries. Not far from Bryson City is Cherokee which is very commercial because it is home to Harrah’s Casino. The city reminded me of the early days of Biloxi – without the river boats.

Most of the mountain towns were pretty similar in that they had a small downtown, a brewery, and lots of outdoor equipment stores. Dillbsoro is one of those small towns and had one street of shops, a few restaurants, and of course – a brewery. Silva is right next door and has a beautiful Courthouse which was recently filmed in the remake of “Dirty Dancing”. I did not watch the first one, but maybe I will watch the second film.
