Bath, New York September 22 – September 25, 2022
Hector, New York September 25 – October 9
Phelps, New York October 9 – October 16
I heard so much about the Finger Lakes Region of New York prior to planning this trip, and I really looked forward to visiting. I was not disappointed. We spent almost three weeks here and there was a lot to see – and yes there were a lot of wineries.
Our first stop was Bath. We only spent a couple of days here and we scheduled this stop to coincide with the Grand Design(the manufacturer of our camper) Rally. We met other owners, had any recall items fixed on the camper, and went to a couple of seminars (Steve did – I slept in). We met a couple when we were in Bar Harbor who were also attending the rally. We reconnected with them and met lots of new friends. Joe – a bourbon connoisseur – had tastings at his camper every night and the largest campfire (other than a bonfire) that I have ever seen.
While we were in Bath, we stopped at Heron Hill Winery and Point of the BluffWinery.
During our trip we met a couple that live in Ithaca, NY when we were at Appomattox Courthouse. After the ranger tour, we sat at the same picnic table and started talking to them. We planned to meet up with them when we arrived in the area. Linda and Lenny were a wealth of information about things to do and see. They invited us to dinner at their home in Ithaca. Lenny made the best angel hair pasta with shrimp and Linda made a homemade apple pie. We also met them at the Apple Festival in Ithaca. One evening they joined us at the camper for an appetizer dinner and we headed out for a wine tasting at Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars. We are so glad that we shared a picnic table with them. We had an awesome time with Linda and Lenny!
While in Ithaca, we stopped by the very cool farmers market.
We spent two weeks in Hector which is a small town on the south east side of Seneca Lake right in the middle of tons of wineries and we spent one week in Phelps which is located on the north side of Seneca Lake.
Linda and Lenny recommended that we go to the Corning Museum in Corning NY (not far from Hector). This was a pretty cool museum of anything made with glass. The exhibits were fantastic and we even watched a glass blowing demonstration.
We visited Watkins Glen State Park which is right downtown of Watkins Glen on the south side of Seneca Lake and home to 19 waterfalls. I did not count 19, but we did see many many waterfalls.
We also took a trip over to Taughannock Falls State Park to walk the beautiful trail and to see the falls.
We visited the Women’s Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls, New York. This is a pretty small museum which also includes the Wesleyan Methodist Church where the first convention was held for women’s rights in 1848. Overall, a pretty interesting museum.
We also visited lots of wineries on Seneca Lake, and here are some of the wineries in no particular order.
We visited a couple of Breweries. Liquid Sate Brewing Company was located in downtown Ithaca.
We also went to Two Goats Brewing located right on Seneca Lake. We went several times to see live music.
We stopped by Big Alice Brewing in Geneva a couple of times for the live music. The music was really good.
And we also visited Twisted Rail Brewery located in downtown Geneva in an old movie theatre
We were in the the Finger Lakes while the leaves were changing, and sunsets were amazing!
Our next stop is Niagara Falls!
